Caption 1: The whole-child approach considers children's development and well-being across five areas: physical, cognitive, social, emotional and cultural. This is the approach we've adopted in our classrooms. Here's what it looks like...

Physical : Working in parallel, cross-body movements, and delaying barre work develops foundational balance.

Cognitive: We encourage thinking and problem solving through identifying and differentiating, recalling steps and terminology, and decision-making opportunities.

Social: Social skills are crucial to the capacity for positive interactions and the formation of friendships.

Emotional: Dance classes provide children a neutral space to explore their feelings and reactions, and to learn to identify emotions in themselves and in others.

Cultural: We all bring something different to the dance floor. We acknowledge students’ unique identities, backgrounds and experiences so that they feel seen, heard and valued.

Ultimately, we want our littlest dancers to be well-rounded humans who can succeed not only in the classroom but in the real world too!

Dance is the perfect way to introduce little minds to concepts like size, speed, levels, weight, space and pathways.

These powerful concepts aren't just important in dance. They're also widely transferable into their everyday lives.

Our curriculum from Leap 'N Learn develops conceptual thinking in each and every exercise, which means our dancers aren't just going to thrive in the studio - they'll be totally set for success in school and in life.

We equip your child with the very best dance education... and it all starts with adopting the Whole Child approach.

At our studio, we're always putting children's development first. It's just who we are. 💜

We do this because children learn at completely different rates and there are big developmental differences between a 3-yr-old, 4-yr-old and 5-yr-old. A good preschool program will separate these ages to ensure their dancers are getting quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Keep in mind, while one student may have advanced physical skills, their language skills may be further behind. Another student in the same class, may have more developed cognitive skills but needs a little more support with social skills.

Supported by our Leap 'N Learn curriculum, we give opportunities for all students to succeed and develop across all areas. Instead of placing the same expectations on all students, our curriculum allows each child’s unique strengths to shine through.

Caption 5: There's so much more to preschool dance than movement and music, and our teachers know the huge role they play in their littlest dancers' development. We've adopted a holistic approach to developing dancers that sets students up for success in the studio and in life.

We focus on building your child's development in every crucial area. With Leap 'N Learn's proven curriculum and high quality teacher training, they can rest assured that children are getting the very best dance education experience possible.

Caption 6: Dance classes provide preschoolers a chance to develop vital physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills. No other activity allows students to work on fine and gross motor skills, develop language skills, all while learning to take turns, share, pack away, and express their feelings and emotions.

A good preschool dance class should complement the stages of children's development.

At this age, children are exploring the world around them, developing relationships between themselves and other things and people, and discovering new words, movements, and feelings all the time.

Preschool dance should enable their natural occurring development… and then amplify it!

Caption 7: Why do we care about student's development?

Well all kids grow and learn at different rates. It's totally normal but it means there are big developmental differences between 3, 4 and 5 year olds. 📈

Some kids will come to class super advanced in their speech but have trouble remembering steps, while another student in the same class may have more developed cognitive skills needs more support with social skills.

It's crucial, as dance teachers and studio owners, that we take childrens' development into consideration - and provide opportunities for students to succeed across all areas, not just some. 💛

Caption 10: Let's talk about the importance of age-appropriate dance education, here's what it means and why it matters to us...

Age-appropriate learning is when curriculum content, studio environment, equipment (like music, props, and resources), and the adult-child interactions are suitable for the ages of the children within the group and the individual needs of any child.

Most importantly, age-appropriate pedagogies are all about balance – balancing the needs of all learners, a balance between holistic and technical goals and knowledge, and balancing teacher-led and student-centered learning.

With a curriculum that nurtures the whole child and teacher training in child development, it's no wonder that when it comes to age-appropriate dance education, our Leap 'N Learn trained teachers are the best in the business! 👑

Caption 11: In a Leap 'N Learn class, children learn how to plié, passé and curtsey. But they also spend time crawling, spinning, and cross-body tapping. Why?

Because an age-appropriate dance class should strike the perfect balance between teaching children the steps they need to know in dance and the developmental skills they need for life.
